JUDGE EILEEN A. KATO

Judge Eileen A. Kato (ret.) was appointed to the King County District Court (Seattle, WA, USA) in June of 1994, and retired from the bench in March of 2015.  She is a graduate of the University of Santa Clara School of Law.  Judge Kato currently serves on the Executive Committee of the International Organization for Judicial Training, the American Bar Foundation Board of Directors, and the Institute for Court Management Advisory Committee of the National Center for State Courts.  She was a faculty member of the National Judicial College for 22 years, member of the Board of Governors and House of Delegates of the American Bar Association, National Center for State Courts, and Justice at Stake, President of the Washington State District and Municipal Court Judges Association (DMCJA), Chair of the DMCJA Education Committee, Dean of the Washington State Judicial College, President and Co-Founder of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association Judicial Council, member of the ABA Justice Kennedy Commission on Sentencing, ABA Judges’ Journal Editorial Board, and Chair of the ABA Judicial Division Conference of Specialized Court Judges.  Judge Kato currently volunteers for the King County Bar Association Neighborhood Legal Clinics and is a frequent speaker and presenter at local, national, and international conferences and forums.
